On January 13, 2023, M. Karimov and his family participated in the celebration of the 8th anniversary of the founding of the Muslim Unity Movement. The Khazar District Police Department deemed the celebratory ceremony a religious gathering and, on January 14, referred Karimov's case to court for the participation of minors. On January 26, Mail Karimov testified in this case in the Khazar District Court of Baku. The next hearing is scheduled for February 2. Arriving in court on the appointed day, M. Karimov was met outside the court by officers from the 14th Department of the police, who forcibly took him to the station. Two days later, his family learned of Mail Karimov's arrest and the initiation of a criminal case against him.
