On June 1, 2024, the Khatai District Court of Baku sentenced Farid Mehralizade
to 3 months and 20 days of imprisonment in a pretrial detention center for the period of preliminary investigation. The term of detention under arrest for the period of investigation was subsequently extended several times.

Economic expert Farid Mehralizade was detained by employees of the Main Police Department (GPD) of Baku on the morning of March 30, 2024, when he was driving to work. According to his wife Nargiz Mukhtarova, he was mistreated and had a bag put over his head.
Initially, the Ministry of Internal Affairs denied the fact of detention. Then it became known that the police brought F. Mehralizade home and conducted a search in his presence, after which he was taken back to the State Police Department. Then it became known that Mehralizade was accused in the case against employees of the online publication Abzas Media.
At the trial in the Khatai District Court of Baku, Mehralizade stated that he was not guilty and had no business relations with the publication Abzas Media. The economist also stated that he was subjected to physical pressure during the detention.
