Muslim Unity Movement activist M. Karimov has been arrested several times recently. He was among five believers detained by police on May 20, 2022, and sentenced to 30 days of administrative arrest. After his release, M. Karimov spoke at a press conference about torture in the police station and an attempted rape. After completing his prison term, police openly warned him that if he became active at movement events, he would be arrested on drug charges.

Following M. Karimov's arrest, police searched his home on February 7, 2023. Knowing that in recent days, during searches of the homes of arrested believers, police had planted provocative religious leaflets or ones with photos of Ayatollah Khomeini and other Iranian leaders, M. Karimov's wife began filming the search on her phone. The angry police tried to take the phone from her, but her children intervened and prevented the officers from planting anything.
