The PFPA activist has been very vocal in his criticism of the Azerbaijani government's policies on social media in recent years. He was arrested by the Ganja police on a clearly trumped-up charge: the day before, police detained a mentally ill Ganja resident, Vugar Javadov, who was brutally beaten at the city police station and forced to write a confession that he was allegedly going to give the 5 grams of drugs found in his pocket to Razi Alishov. Then, during the investigation, Vugar Javadov was treated in a hospital for mental disorders and received the same drugs there, after which he was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
