On October 11, 2023, the Sabail District Court of Baku sentenced Zyaka Miragayev to 4 months of imprisonment in a pre-trial detention center for the period of preliminary investigation. The term of detention under arrest for the period of investigation was subsequently extended.
November 28, 2024. The Baku Court of Grave Crimes delivered the sentence: since the prosecution failed to provide convincing evidence during the trial, the judge replaced the previous charge with a new one - 234.1-1 (Illegal acquisition or storage without the purpose of sale of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances in quantities exceeding those necessary for personal consumption, committed in large quantities) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic. And after that, Zyaka Miragayev was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Judge: Kamran Mukhtarov

During the court hearing, Zyaka Miragayev said that on October 11, 2023, he was detained by officers of the 9th police department of the Sabail district of Baku, they came to his home and took him to the department. On the way, they planted drugs in his pocket, and at the station, they demanded that he admit that the drugs were his own. When he refused, they began to brutally beat him so that he would make the necessary confessions. At that time, he did not have a lawyer.
Then Zyaka Miragayev stated that he was being punished for writing on social networks about the lawlessness of the police. In particular, before his arrest on October 1, 2023, on his Facebook page, that the police were constantly putting pressure on him. This all happened after he wrote an open letter to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan Vilayat Eyvazov:
“Mr. Minister, Mr. Policemen and Generals, do not bother me with your calls. You still do not comply with the procedural processes stipulated by law. You always do what you think is necessary.”
