On December 1, the Sabail District Court satisfied the request of the investigative body—the State Security Service—to detain the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), Ali Karimli, for a period of 2.5 months.

According to the court's decision, Karimli was placed under arrest until February 13, 2026, in connection with charges brought against him under Article 278.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (actions aimed at the forcible seizure of power or the forcible change of the state's constitutional order).

"The charges are fabricated, politically motivated, and an appeal will be filed against the court's decision," said a PFPA representative.

Karimli's advisor, Mammad Ibrahim, was also arrested for a period of 2.5 months under similar charges.

In connection with the proceedings in the Karimli case, reinforced police units were concentrated around the Sabail District Court, a PFPA representative stated.

The party declared that the arrests of Karimli and Ibrahimli were politically motivated.

Both opposition figures were detained on November 29 after searches were conducted in their apartments.
