Elkhan Mirzoyev

The fate of the animal rights activist Elkhan Mirzoyev, who was taken from his home in the Lerik district on October 1 by people in plain clothes, has become clear in Azerbaijan.

It turns out that as early as October 3, the Lerik District Court sentenced him to two months of administrative arrest, finding him guilty under Article 206 (Illegal consumption of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, or shipment not for the purpose of sale, in a quantity necessary for personal consumption) of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Azerbaijan, according to the activist's relatives.

Mirzoyev categorically rejects this absurd accusation, his relative stated.

The activist is the cousin of the opposition blogger Tural Sadigli, who is in political emigration.

On October 1, the blogger's uncle, Elmir Sadigov, was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison in a criminal case regarding illegal possession of weapons.

T. Sadigli linked the arrests of his relatives to his criticism of the Azerbaijani government.
