Jumshud Jumshudlu

A Baku court is hearing the case of Jumshud Jumshudlu, a 28-year-old who died after falling into a sewage channel when the ground gave way under him. The incident happened on June 26 on Alaskar Gayibov Street in the Narimanov district. Jumshudlu, his family's only child, died at the scene. His body was found two days after in a sewage reservoir in the Surakhany district.

An investigation showed the sewage channel was the Baku Water and Sewerage Department's responsibility.

Accusation and Defense

Azer Jumshudov, a site manager for emergency repairs at the department, is charged with violating Article 314.2 of the Criminal Code (carelessness causing death).

The Narimanov District Court is handling the case. At the November 27 hearing, Jumshudov claimed he was not guilty. He said he wasn't working in that role when the incident took place and has an order to show it. Jumshudov said this order wasn't in the case files. He also said his previous state-appointed lawyer didn't talk to him or defend him in any way.

The victim’s mother is part of the trial as the injured party's legal heir. Jumshudov is not in custody but has restrictions on where he can go.

The hearing was postponed until December 9 so Jumshudov's new lawyer, Anar Ramazanov, could review the case details.
