On October 3, the Narimanov District Court of Baku, during an offsite hearing at Correctional Institution No. 10, considered the request of trade union activist Ayhan Israfilov for parole (early conditional release), which was filed in connection with his serving two-thirds of his prison sentence.

This was reported by the "Worker's Platform" (İşçi masası) Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan, of which Israfilov is a board member.

The activist was denied release on the pretext that he had served time in a punishment cell (solitary confinement) in 2024.

The activist stated that his disciplinary punishment was unjustified.

Israfilov plans to appeal the court's decision.

Ayhan Israfilov was detained on August 11, 2023, and subsequently arrested on charges of illegal drug trafficking. He was later sentenced to 3 years in prison. Israfilov's colleagues stated that his case was fabricated and is retaliation for his trade union activities. Human rights defenders have recognized him as a political prisoner.
