You won't believe what happened in a Baku courtroom on October 24, 2025! Anar Asadli, who used to head up the now-defunct Azerbaijan Advancement Party, got arrested. Talk about drama in his ongoing fraud case!
So, here's the deal: the judge at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes approved a request from the victims in the case. They said Asadli hadn't paid them the money he owed. The court agreed, canceled his previous release, and took him into custody right there.
Basically, the hearing took a wild turn. It went from being a normal session to Asadli being sent to jail.
What Sparked the Arrest?
Two of the four people who are victims in the fraud case filed a motion. They claimed Asadli hadn't paid them back for the money he supposedly took. Judge Elnur Nuriyev thought their reason was good enough and told the police to arrest Asadli right away.
Straight to Jail
Because of the judge's call, Anar Asadli's previous release was taken away. Now, instead of just staying in the area, he's locked up in a pre-trial center. His next court date is set for November 28, 2025.
This puts way more pressure on Asadli. He's not just dealing with breaking the rules but facing fraud charges that could land him in prison for ten years.
The case against Asadli is all about some serious money stuff. Since he used to be the leader of a political party, these charges are a big deal legally and for the public.
The Charges
Anar Asadli is charged under Article 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code. This is for fraud that causes major money problems. If he's found guilty, he could be in prison for five to ten years.
Who's Complaining?
There are four people involved who are seen as victims. One of them is Oqtay Qasımov, who used to work for Abulfaz Elchibey, a former president of Azerbaijan.
Because the charges are so heavy and someone famous is involved, the case has been a mess to follow.
A Bumpy Ride Through the Courts
Anar Asadli's case has been all over the place. He's been arrested, freed, had his case dropped, and now he's arrested again. It's like the legal system can't make up its mind!
Here's a quick rundown:
April 21, 2023: First arrest for fraud.
July 2023: Got out of jail and was put on house arrest.
After July 2023: The criminal case was stopped by the people .
Then: The Prosecutor General's Office said, Nope, start again!
October 10, 2025: The Baku Court of Grave Crimes planned for the trial.
And that leads us to the October 24 hearing, where he lost his freedom again. What a rollercoaster!
Anar Asadli isn't just fighting fraud charges. He's also a former political leader whose party fell apart during his legal problems. He was the head of the Azerbaijan Advancement Party, which was a real player until things went south for him.
Party Days
Anar Asadli became the chairman on December 6, 2020. The party got officially registered in October 2021, which meant they were a real deal in the country's politics.
Party's Over
The party's problems began when Asadli got into legal trouble. On June 23, 2023, the party shut down while Asadli was locked up. Was it because the party couldn't run without him? Or was it to keep the heat off its members? We can only guess.
Now that Anar Asadli is back in jail, he's waiting for his trial to continue. It's not just about his freedom but also about what's next for his political career.
