The court in Baku made a decision that shows how crime and politics are connected around the world. Alexander Vaysero, an IT specialist who is 36 years old and also a businessman was given four years in prison. Judge Namiq Kerimov was in charge of the court. They found Vaysero guilty of laundering a lot of money.
The people who accused Vaysero said he tried to hide where a lot of money came from. This money was made from gambling and lottery websites. They said he used bank cards that belonged to people to make the money look like it was legal.
Vaysero said he did not do anything. He said he came to Azerbaijan in June 2025 just to visit and have a time. He was surprised when he got arrested. His lawyer said there was not evidence to prove he was guilty and he should be set free.. The court still gave him four years in prison.
This all happened when Azerbaijan and Russia were not getting along. There were some problems between the two countries. For example an Azerbaijani plane was shot down over Grozny in December 2024.. Some Azerbaijanis were treated badly in Yekaterinburg in 2025. Two people. Many were arrested. The people in Azerbaijan were very upset about this.
Vaysero is not the Russian who is having problems with the law in Azerbaijan. There are eight Russians who are on trial for drug-related crimes. They all say they are not guilty. They think they are being punished because of the problems between Azerbaijan and Russia.
Recently the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia met in Dushanbe. They talked about saying sorry for problems and paying money to make things right.. The fact that foreigners are being given prison time shows how complicated the legal and political situation is in this part of the world. For now Vaysero is still, in jail. His case is a big example of how digital money and international politics are connected.
