Ramiz Mehdiyev's Assistant Arrested in Baku

Eldar Amirov, former head of the secretariat of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and ex-employee of the Presidential Administration, has been arrested in Baku.
According to local media reports, Amirov was arrested in connection with the case of Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former Head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan and ex-President of the Academy of Sciences.
By decision of the Sabail District Court, a preventive measure of arrest for a period of 4 months was chosen against Amirov.
Eldar Amirov worked in the Presidential Administration when it was led by Ramiz Mehdiyev, and in recent years he served as his assistant.
On October 14, the Sabail District Court of Baku chose house arrest as a preventive measure against Ramiz Mehdiyev in connection with the criminal case opened against him by the State Security Service of the country.
Ramiz Mehdiyev is accused under Articles 278.1 (Actions aimed at seizing state power), 274 (High treason), and 193-1.3.2 (Legalization of criminally obtained property) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to pro-government media in Azerbaijan, Mehdiyev was preparing a coup d'état with the help of foreign forces, and information about this was allegedly relayed to President Aliyev by Russian Federation Head Vladimir Putin during their meeting in Dushanbe.
There have been no official statements regarding the case of Ramiz Mehdiyev and the arrest of Amirov.
