On April 7, 2024, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes issued a verdict against Elbai Karimli: to find him guilty on all charges and sentence him to 6 years of imprisonment in a general regime penal institution.
On June 7, 2024, the Baku Court of Appeal considered the appeal against the verdict and issued a new verdict: since the prosecution failed to provide convincing evidence during the trial, the judge replaced the previous charge with a new one - 234.1-1 (Illegal acquisition or storage without the purpose of sale of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances in quantities exceeding those necessary for personal consumption, committed on a large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic. And after that, Elbai Karimli Aliyev was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment

At the end of August 2023, PFPA activist Elbai Karimli was filming a monument to Heydar Aliyev and was detained by the police. He was brutally beaten at the police station, after which he was charged with possession and sale of drugs. Party comrades tried unsuccessfully to obtain information about the missing E. Karimli for two months. The situation was complicated by the fact that the young activist is an orphan and has no relatives. It was also impossible to obtain information about E. Karimli from the police. Only on October 24, an unknown person called the PFPA and reported that Elbei Karimli had been arrested and was in pretrial detention center No. 1 in Kurdakhani. After this, the PFPA hired a lawyer and only two months after the arrest, E. Karimli got a lawyer, Neymat Karimli, who finally reported under what article of the Criminal Code the young PFPA activist was arrested. During the trial held on December 28, 2023, Elbai Karimli categorically denied the charges brought against him, indicated that he was detained for filming a monument to Heydar Aliyev. He also stated that in protest on the eve of the trial, he began a hunger strike against the criminal prosecution.
