According to the investigation, on April 10, 2023, at approximately 1:40 PM, during operational and investigative activities, officers from the 9th Police Department of the Sabail District Police Department of Baku detained E. Sultanov on one of the central streets of the capital. Police officers brought him to the station, where they conducted a personal search, which resulted in the discovery of a single packet containing 7.503 grams of heroin in his right trouser pocket. During the trial, defendant E. Sultanov pleaded not guilty to the charges and testified that on April 10, 2023, near the Amai shopping center, two police officers approached him and asked his name. They then asked him several questions about which mosque he attended, how long he prayed, and what he wrote on Facebook. The officers then stated they had orders to bring him to the police station. There, heroin, the drug he had never seen before, was placed in front of Sultanov. Without a list of lawyers to choose from, he was assigned a lawyer at public expense. Sultanov testified that the drugs were placed in his pocket, and that the location of his arrest was then videotaped twice, as the initial search failed to establish the location of his arrest. The defendant also testified that he had never used drugs and that the testimony he signed during the preliminary investigation was obtained under psychological pressure. He was threatened that if he refused to sign a confession, his family would also be involved in the case.
