Ibrahim Humbatov is the head of the news website Azerinfo.az. The news website recently published critical articles on high-ranking Azerbaijani officials.
On December 11, 2023, authorities detained Humbatov (also known as Ibrahim Gubadoglu). Allegedly, the police received complaints from the concerned citizens. Humbatov was charged with “extortion by threats.” According to of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Humbatov was “spreading various disgraceful news about individuals and demanding money in exchange for deleting that news later.” The Narimanov District Court remanded Humbatov to four months of pre-trial detention.
