Ilkhamiz Guliyev

Under Article 234.1 (Illegal acquisition or storage without the purpose of sale of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances in quantities exceeding those necessary for personal consumption) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
On December 6, 2023, the Yasamal District Court of Baku chose a preventive measure of arrest for a period of 4 months against public activist Ilkhamiz Guliyev. The term of detention under arrest during the investigation was subsequently extended several times.
Sentence: On December 12, 2024, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes issued a sentence:
since the prosecution failed to provide convincing evidence during the trial, the judge replaced the previous article of the charge with a new one - 234.1-1 (Illegal acquisition or storage without the purpose of sale of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances in quantities exceeding those necessary for personal consumption, committed in large quantities) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. And after that, Ilhamiz Guliyev was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment

As one of his relatives later told journalists:
"Ilkhamiz was taken away using violence. They dragged him, hit him on the head." Although I. Guliyev was taken to the 28th Department of the Baku City Police Department, for three hours the police denied to his family members that he was with them. All this time, I. Guliyev was beaten. Only in the evening was it officially confirmed that I. Guliyev was being held in the Yasamal District Police Department of Baku.
During the trial on December 6 in the Yasamal District Court of Baku, I. Guliyev stated that he had been tortured by the police and showed signs of violence. In this regard, the court decided to contact the prosecutor's office to investigate the activist's statement about torture.
