During a court hearing at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, renowned 48-year-old theologian Telman Asadullayev stated that on April 5, 2023, police officers came to his mosque and took him to the 40th Police Department of the Binagadi District of Baku. There, the theologian claimed, he was given a choice: admit to possessing a firearm or drugs. Otherwise, he would be charged with plotting an attack on Member of Parliament Fazil Mustafa, which occurred on March 28, 2023. The theologian responded that he was unarmed, did not smoke, and did not drink, and therefore would not accept any of the charges offered to him by the police officers from the 40th Police Department of the Binagadi District of Baku. In response, the police threatened to rape him. After this threat, the theologian couldn't take it anymore and signed a confession claiming to have purchased drugs for himself.
