Ahmad Mammadli, a civic activist and founder of Yoldash Media who is currently in detention, is reportedly experiencing serious health problems.

His wife, Turkan Mammadli, shared the information, stating that during a family visit, the activist said his asthma had worsened in the detention facility, he was having difficulty breathing, and the eye that was struck by the police was seeing blurry.

“Ahmad said during the visit that his asthma has worsened in the detention facility, he is having difficulty breathing, and his right eye, which was injured, sees blurry. Ahmad Mammadli suffers from genetic asthma and has undergone two eye surgeries. He must be under constant medical supervision. Prison conditions are not suitable for his health.

Therefore, he should be released under house arrest,” the family stated.

The Committee for the Protection of Ahmad Mammadli’s Rights emphasized that he suffers from genetic asthma and has undergone two eye surgeries. “Ahmad Mammadli must be under constant medical supervision. Prison conditions are not suitable for his health. Therefore, he should be released under house arrest,” the statement read.

Ahmad Mammadli was detained late at night on May 6, 2025. It was alleged that on that same day, around 10:00 PM, he stabbed a person named Vuqar Dunyamalıyev in the abdominal area in the Bilajari settlement.

On May 8, 2025, a four-month pretrial detention measure was imposed on him.

He has been charged under Articles 126.2.4 (Deliberate infliction of serious bodily harm) and 221.3 (Hooliganism committed with a weapon or objects used as a weapon) of the Criminal Code. Under these charges, he faces up to 11 years in prison.

Ahmad Mammadli denies the accusations and claims he was arrested because of his past political and civic activism and his current work as a journalist.
