Negotiations between the leaders of the US, Azerbaijan, and Armenia—Donald Trump, Ilham Aliyev, and Nikol Pashinyan—in Washington on August 8 concluded with the signing of a joint declaration.
At the ceremony, Trump announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan had agreed to renounce military confrontation and restore diplomatic relations.
"They fought for 35 years. Now they are friends," Trump said following the meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Washington.
Pashinyan and Aliyev proposed nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
As a result of the talks, the US is also lifting restrictions on military cooperation with Azerbaijan and plans to work with both countries in the fields of energy, trade, and AI development.
Additionally, a section of the Zangezur corridor passing through Armenian territory is being transferred to an American company for 99 years. The transit corridor will be named the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity," or TRIPP.
This road will connect the western part of Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave.
Azerbaijan and Armenia also agreed to jointly appeal to the OSCE to dissolve the OSCE Minsk Group, which was created in 1992 to resolve the conflict between the two countries.
