On September 15, the Binagadi District Court of Baku concluded the criminal case against Azerbaijani blogger Mahammad Mirzali, who resides in France.

The court sentenced Mirzali to 6 years and 6 months in prison in absentia.

Mirzali was found guilty under articles 220.2 (organization of mass riots) and 281.1 (public calls for the violent seizure of power) of the Criminal Code.

The criminal case against Mirzali was opened by the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan in March of this year. On June 3, the Binagadi District Court issued a warrant for his arrest.

Mirzali is a fierce critic of the Azerbaijani authorities. In March 2021, there was an assassination attempt on Mirzali in France, where he sustained multiple stab wounds.
